Tennessee, like most states, exempts owner-occupants doing their own work in their own single-family home from some licensing requirements. Legal is not the same as wise. Without containment, negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, and documented disposal, a DIY tear-out contaminates the house it was meant to improve, and disposal sites require asbestos waste to arrive documented and double-bagged.
